Funding for adult education and community and organisational development

In Dialogue and Storybag would like to invite you to three new training courses that will inspire community leaders, change initiators and -promoters, trainers, community educators, governmental organizations and NGOs.


Communities all over Europe are in transition, and migration of refugees is one of the current topics. Also, citizens are obliged to become more self-sufficient and take responsibilities for themselves and each other. In economically and socially unstable times, these are changes and challenges not easily accepted and dealt with.

Change is a gradual process of decisions and actions. Real and lasting change happens when people’s hearts and minds become engaged enough to let them re-imagine possibilities, change their behavior and act accordingly.


Storybag and InDialogue have combine their knowledge of these topics and will organize three consecutive courses in 2018.

With an Erasmus+ application an organisation can apply for financial support for trainings.

The application deadline is 1 February 2018, and we assist with the application process! See below for more information.


The training courses

The courses are planned to run for 5 days, including a welcome evening. Furthermore, all courses have a maximum of 25 participants, unless agreed differently. If too little participants enrol for a course, participants will be directed to another related course, possibly at another location.



Course 1: Raising Strong and Resilient communities – Training for Community Leaders

This course will be delivered in Berlin

In this course we will introduce you to story and narrative, how stories came to be and how you / we are made of stories. You will also get insights into the phenomenon of (dominant) narratives and why and how they influence individuals, communities and whole societies. You will learn about the importance of the dialogue, of listening, about the power of the question, and how to employ different narrative approaches in and for communities (e.g. mapping, planning, story collecting and analysing, and action planning / story crafting). You will be able to work on concrete cases / plans for your community. The RSRC manual (and our experiences throughout the project) will function as a guideline and an activities resource.


Course 2: Raising Strong and resilient Communities – Training for Trainers

This course will be delivered in Prague

In this course the emphasis will be an educator-oriented approach how to work with and deal with the power of stories and (dominant) narratives. How working with stories can enhance respect and empathy in communities. Knowledge of working (and facilitating) with questions, asking questions to stories and respecting (the role of) stories through the lens of Participatory Narrative Inquiry and other narrative approaches. You will also learn to educate and train and future story workers / community facilitators through a step-by-step approach. All this will be accompanied by practical, inspiring but nevertheless hands-on activities and exercises. The RSRC manual (and our experiences throughout the project) will function as a guideline and an activities resource.


Course 3: Raising Strong and resilient communities – Training for career guides and councillors.

This course will be delivered in Gouda (Netherlands)

The narrative approach to career guidance and counselling is very powerful when self-limiting ideas have played a role in a person's life for a longer time - often accompanied by shame, guilt, frustration etc. - and when these ideas are standing in the way of living out dreams and values, in relation to education and career planning. The participant will learn to help the focus person deconstruct these dominant ideas or stories and to construct alternative stories about resources, hopes, dreams and values that lead to new opportunities for action. The course will offer a chance to practice narrative guidance and counselling with individuals as well as witnessing methods with groups.




The courses will consist of a mix of theoretical outputs (e.g. Participatory Narrative Inquiry, (Community) Mapping, Story Circles, Story Crafting, and other facilitating narrative approaches), concrete hands-on exercises, and group discussions. The best way to learn directly and to the immediate benefit of your community is to apply the presented tools to real-life cases from your everyday work. You will therefore experiencing and practicing different tools with and on each other and in this way receive insights and discover new opportunities for your community and community development.


The RSRC project

The courses are a direct result of the Erasmus+ project ‘Raising Strong and Resilient Communities’. The innovative aspect of this project (Erasmus+ Good practice) was that it aimed at the development of training courses and an accompanying handbook / manual (with concrete guidelines) for leaders and community educators, to enable them to work with concrete narrative approaches and methods, guidelines to help communities coping with present AND perceived FUTURE situations.

All partners in the project participated practicing and experiencing actively narrative approaches with a diverse group of communities, and did so successfully. On this websiteyou can see in detail how the project was executed.

Erasmus+ project results.




The course fee for all the 5-day courses is 750 Euro. For Erasmus+ you can apply for 5 days of course fees (total 350 Euro). Next to that, you will receive a fee per mobility of 350 Euro, which is for preparation, mentoring, etc. (which will be mostly done by us).

Travel and stay are financed by another part of the grant and in almost all cases are sufficient for travel, food and accommodation.



Application process

In Dialogue has many years of experience in Erasmus+ funding and will provide the applying institutions with a high quality template application form, and give guidance in how to complete it for the 1st February 2018 deadline.

In Dialogue will assist you with the application, by which it will take roughly 3 to 4 hours per organisation to complete, instead of 2 – 3 days.

After granting In Dialogue will provide tools for monitoring and evaluation as well as for the final reporting process.



If your organisations are interested in applying please let us know soon. The deadline is the 1st of February 2018, but we would like to be well in advance to support your application process.


When applying for the 1st February 2018 deadline, mobilities (e.g. courses) can take place between spring 2018 and 2019 - or 2020, when choosing for a 2-year project. And when applying, you do not have to mention specific staff members, only what sort of staff (e.g. management, principals, career guides, etc.). Later you decide who will go to which activity.
